The Detroit Red Wings continue to solidify their young core by signing forward Gustav Nyquist to a four year deal worth $19 million. Nyquist, a former fourth round pick in 2008, was second on the Red Wings in goals with 27, trailing only Tomas Tatar‘s 29. Of those 27 goals, 14 came on the power play, which was good for third most in the entire NHL. Nyquist has blossomed with the Wings since becoming a full time contributor back in 2014, a season in which he led Detroit with 29 goals in only 57 games. One thing Nyquist must improve upon is his consistency, as he disappears at times from the scoresheet for long stretches. Detroit will be happy to see through some growing pains with Nyquist as he looks to lead this young core for at least the next four years.
