Detroit Lions Linebacker - DeAndre Levy

The Detroit Lions locked up one of the centerpieces of their defensive core, extending the contract of linebacker DeAndre Levy for four years. Terms of the deal have yet to be disclosed but it is believed the deal will make Levy the highest paid non pass rushing LB in the game.

Levy has been nothing short of spectacular since being drafted in the 3rd round out of Wisconsin in 2009. He led the Lions in tackles last year with 151, which was good for 2nd in the NFL, two less than leader Luke Kuechly. In 2013, he led the Lions in interceptions with 6, which was good for tops among linebackers and second in the league overall.

When the Lions let Ndamukong Suh walk, re-signing Levy was one of their reasons for needing the money in the future. Having learned their lesson, giving Suh all of the leverage in a walk year, the Lions were determined to lock Levy up before he had any chance of bolting in free agency.

Levy will start at outside linebacker for the foreseeable future. He has shown he is also capable at filling the hole in the middle should Stephen Tulloch‘s knee continues to be an issue or if the he becomes a salary cap causality next season.
